When you are trying to fix credit report and remove negative items either from past financial mistakes, lender mistakes, or just errors it can be a very frustrating road!

Why?

Unfortunately the credit bureaus (TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian) have discovered that it is not in their financial interest to investigate disputed items. This is because there is no financial incentive for the bureaus to conduct an investigation and instead it drains potential profits.

The bureaus sell your information to lenders. Every time your credit is checked the credit bureaus cash register rings and profits are earned! The bureaus do not sell you the consumer anything! They just keep track of information about you.

Thus, it makes no difference if that information is accurate or not! They can still sell it and make a bundle of money! Every year the bureaus collectively earn billions of dollars in profits! Let me repeat this – that is profits and NOT GOVERNMENT MONEY! This is profit just like Wal-Mart earns!

As you can probably see by now when the bureaus receive a dispute regarding an item they use stall tactics. The most common response is to get a letter back saying that you do not have all the pertinent information.

You will get this letter if you have all the right information or not! The one and only purpose to this letter is to frustrate you into giving up on the dispute process. After all it is only going to cost the bureau money to investigate your disputed item!

This is when people will often turn to a credit repair attorney. And in good measure, it is a lot of work to clean up credit reports. You must dispute each item with each credit bureau.

For example; if you have one item say a charged off credit card from Capital One that listing is going to be on all three credit bureaus and it is going to require you to dispute that listing with each credit bureau.

Additionally a credit attorney can help with advanced techniques and typically you will need to do some debt consolidation or negotiate some settlement agreements.

You can hire a Credit Repair Law Firm to work on your behalf, very affordably. Typically, you must put a retainer down. This should not exceed $100 and then have a service for anywhere from $39 – $99.

We recommend Lexington Law – they have been in business since 1991 and are a member of the BBB. They removed over a million negative marks in 2010.

Be cautious and do you homework before you hire anyone! We have heard horror stories of people paying large sums of money upfront and didn’t see any improvement in their credit!

Lexington Law Firm is a popular credit repair service. They have been in business for over 20 years and operate in all 50 states!

In 2010 alone they removed 1,297,226 items from their clients credit reports. On average they remove 8.6 items by month 3 and 28.6 items removed by the 12 month mark!

How Does It Work?

First, you need to get a copy of your credit reports. This can be done for free by visiting www.annualcreditreport.com.

Next, you are going to review your reports and identify any items you feel are inaccurate. In other words you should identify all the negative items on your credit report.

Then you forward your credit report on to Lexington Law Firm and they are going to dispute each item with all three credit bureaus. They will start with a dispute letter however by hiring a credit attorney you are gaining a larger arsenal of tools to repair bad credit.

Lexington Law Firm they will also be able to submit a debt validation letter. This letter challenges the right of a collection agency to collect the debt they are contacting you about.

Additionally they can use a debt inquiry letter, good will intervention, and most powerfully and importantly they can use court intervention should you need it. Best of all Lexington Law Firm is familiar with the process and how the credit bureaus operate!

How Much Does It Cost

This will hands down be the cheapest form of legal representation you ever pay for! You will have an account set up fee of $99 and then you will have the choice of three levels of service with monthly price points at $49.95, $69.95, and $89.95.

This is very competitive and if you find a law firm or service that charges anything more than $100 upfront with a monthly fee of less than $100 – RUN! They are in all likelihood a fraud and will charge you an arm and a leg for minimal service if at all.

You should expect to stay in this service for approximately 6-12 months, obviously depending upon how much work needs to be done. This is such a small financial price to pay for all the savings you will be able to take advantage off with a good score.

Additionally your quality of life will improve with a clean credit report! You will be able to make more purchases using financing, and at competitive interest rates! Not to mention being proud of when your credit is checked!

Which is happening much more often in today’s society – most jobs will not check your credit before hiring you!

If you are looking to improve your credit realize you are not alone. If your score is below a 700 you should take action to improve your credit score.

1. You first need to get a copy of your credit reports – you need to get a copy of your report with each bureau. In other words you need to get your Trans Union report, Equifax report, and Experian report. Why? You will probably be surprised to see how different each report is.

Also you need to know which bureaus are listing what negative items on your report so you can dispute these items and get them removed!

2. Identify what negative items are bringing down your score – this will include items such as; a credit judgement, charge offs, tax liens, repossessions, foreclosure …

3. You should dispute these items with the bureaus – you know that saying that you have to just live with bad credit for 7-10 years – well it is complete BULL!!

In fact the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) a piece of legislation that was passed to protect you from the credit bureaus says that the longest an item can remain on your report is for a “maximum of seven years.” Nowhere is there a mention of the minimum amount of time an item must remain on your report!

In fact it is just the opposite. The reason the law was passed was to prevent lenders and creditors from keeping a negative item on your report for longer than 7 years! Unfortunately, this law is constantly be violated as we have seen bad credit items stay on a report for much longer than seven years – which is illegal.

Additionally in the FCRA it says you can dispute any item you feel is inaccurate. I find it almost laughable when I hear all these myths that the so called “experts” perpetuate about how you can not dispute items on your report and have to just live with bad credit – IT’S NOT TRUE!!! You can dispute ANY item – according to the law and enjoy improve credit score.

In a recent study it was found that approximately 25% of all credit reports contain an error on them. Unfortunately this error could be costing you real dollars and cents – in high interest rates, down payments – and who knows it could have disqualified you for a job position. A rapidly growing trend is employers will run a potential hire’s credit before offering them a position.

4. Pay your bills on time – even if you have made mistakes in the past and have some bad credit items that doesn’t always mean your score will be ruined. In fact as these mistakes age on your report they will influence your score less and less.

However you payment history is a VERY important factor when your score is calculated. If you can start to build a positive on time payment history it will help your score even if you have negative items on your report.

5. Settle your outstanding debts – often people believe that if they just pay old debts it will help their credit score – THIS IS NOT TRUE!! Unfortunately you can pay old debts and the items will continue to remain on your credit report. An account may be changed to ‘paid’ but that could even hurt your score as it shows you have been active with the account – instead of the debt being an old aging financial mistake.

When you settle your outstanding debts you need to first seek debt validation. This forces the bill collector to prove that they have legal rights to collect this account – and you would be surprised how often a bill collector is unable to provide this simple documentation.

If they can not prove they own your debt – you don’t have to pay and the bureau has to remove bad credit item from your credit report. If they do own your debt then you need to come to a settlement agreement but as a stipulation you must have them agree to stop reporting the item to the bureaus.

Don’t worry – this is common practice and the reason you must do this is so that you can file a credit report dispute after your settlement.

Once the bureaus deem your dispute valid they will investigate the item and contact the bill collector to verify the account. However as a stipulation of your settlement the debt collector will not verify your account with the bureaus and therefore the bureaus will have to remove the item and give you a clear credit report.

Sounds easy, right? It can be, however the big road block most people run into is getting the credit bureaus to deem your dispute valid and conduct an investigation. Unfortunately it is not in the bureaus financial interest to ensure they have accurate information about you.

This is because you are not the customer. The bureaus sell your information to private business – every time your credit is checked the bureaus cash register rings. The credit bureaus annually recorded profits in the billions of dollars!

And when they investigate disputes they are spending money that would otherwise be potential profits. In fact the bureaus have been fined time and time again for not complying with the FCRA and conducting investigations.

This is when many individuals turn to credit repair companies – because they are familiar with the bureaus tactics and have the legal resources to ensure a dispute is investigated. A service also has more tools to combat the bureaus they can use; court intervention, goodwill intervention, debt inquiry, and most importantly debt validation.

We recommend the Lexington Law Firm they have been in business for over 20 years and in the year 2010 they removed over 1.2 million items from their clients credit reports.

If you go with a service all you have to do is forward them your credit reports and tell them what items you want to dispute. Then sit back and wait for the investigation result letter from the bureaus. This will tell you if an item was verified or removed from your report.

In sum you don’t just have to live with bad credit – take action today and repair my credit history. For a free credit consultation call 1-800-230-1954.

One of our customers recently asked about a collection agency named midland credit management, or “mcm”, who is threatening to place a judgment on credit report if she doesn’t settle the account. Here is her question verbatim:

What is midland, any way? They are trying to collect on something that is over 10 years old telling me i still owe 700.00 dollars and my payment arrangements need to be updated. They also threatened to get a legal judgment against me.

What do I do, now?

First, a collection agency cannot unilaterally place a judgment against you. They need a court to officially enter a judgment.

Second, to obtain a judgment against you, they would need to file a lawsuit in the appropriate county and then follow through to prove that you legally owe the debt.

Third, perhaps you don’t even have a legal obligation to pay the debt. Consider checking out the statute of limitations. Most credit card statute of limitations are between 4 and 6 years. (that is extended if you have been making payments all along)

Fourth and finally, the odds are that they wouldn’t follow through with a judgment for a $700 debt. The costs of obtaining the judgment outweigh any value that it may bring.

So, I would rest easy on this one. For more about how to remove collections or other negative items from your credit report – call 1-800-230-1954 and get a free credit consultation.

First you need to pat yourself on the back for taking action to figure out what steps you need to take to fix my credit score.

Contrary to popular belief you don’t just have to live with bad credit. In fact the law the so called experts are referring to when they claim you have to just live with bad credit is the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).

However the truth behind this piece of legislation is that it was created to protect you from the bureaus. And it says that a negative item can remain on your report for a maximum of seven years – nowhere does it mention the minimum amount of time an item can remain on your report.

It also provides you with the ability to dispute any item you feel is inaccurate. In other words it is 100% legal to dispute any item on your report so long as you “feel” it is inaccurate.

This is hands down going to be one of the most effective methods to repair my credit is by removing negative items from your report. This is because those negative items just ruin your score, regardless of how well you may be managing your current finances.

To remove these items you must dispute credit report by writing a letter to each credit bureau that is listing the item on your report. In other words you will likely have to write 3 letters one to each bureau.

In your letter you need to include the item in dispute, reason, and any documentation you have. Once the bureau deems your dispute valid they will investigate the bad credit item. During the investigation they will contact the lender and if they can not verify the debt then it will be removed from your report.

Why Do I Hear About How Hard Credit Repair Is?

This is a result of people running into the billion dollar industry and the three big players also known as Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. Contrary to popular belief or even what would seem like common sense the credit bureaus could give a flip if the information they have collected about you is accurate or not?

Why?

The bureaus don’t sell your information to you. Instead they sell your information to creditors, lenders, and businesses. Therefore their is no financial motive for the bureaus to investigate disputes. In fact it costs them money that otherwise would be profit.

The bureaus have come up with elaborate and sophisticated tactics to avoid investigating items. They have faced fines from the FTC countless times for these brazen tactics. This is why most people give up on trying to clear bad credit.

And the smart ones instead of giving up turn to professional credit repair companies. These services will provide you with paralegal and real attorneys and the resources they posess to fight and you can repair my credit!

All you have to do is forward the copies of your credit reports. Tell them what items you want to dispute and wait for the investigation result letters. These letters are from the bureaus and will inform you of the conclusion to their investigation – if the item was verified or removed.

We suggest the Lexington Law Firm. They have 22 lawyers on staff and 400 paralegal’s. They removed over 1.2 million bad credit items from their client’s reports in 2010 alone and have been in business for over 20 years! They have an impeccable track record!

Is your credit rating in the dumps? Are you paying high interest rates and fees? Are you sick of the high cost and embarrassment that comes with bad credit?

The good news is – there are things you can do today to improve credit score.

1. First you need to figure out what is on your credit report. This can be done at www.annualcreditreport.com – this is free and will provide you a copy of your report with each bureau once a year.

2. Next you need to identify the bad credit items. These are charge offs, liens, collections, repossessions, civil judgements …

3. You now need to dispute these items. To do this you must file a credit dispute with each bureau. This means you must write a letter to each bureau in which you include the disputed item, reason for the dispute, dates, and any other information you have concerning the item.

4. The bureaus will typically blow off your first letter, second letter, and sometimes even third. You will often hear back from them requesting that you provide additional information about the item in question. The bureaus will do this regardless of if they need it or not.

This is a stall tactic used to encourage you to give up on trying to fix credit score and instead just live with the high cost of damaged credit. However if you are persistent you will get the item investigated or you can hire a professional credit law firm to do this on your behalf.

5. Settle you outstanding debts. If you are being contacted by debt collectors you should negotiate payment. However before you negotiate a settlement we strongly encourage you to seek debt validation.

This is when the collection agency must prove that they have a legal right to collect and contact you regarding this debt. If they can not prove this then you do not haveto pay the debt and the item will be removed from your report once it is disputed.

If you decide to repair your credit report on your own, make sure you remain persistent and determined. While the bureaus are huge bureacuracies and have created a bunch of red tape to get through you can have your dispute investigated. If you use a service just sit back and relax.

When an investigation occurs the bureau will contact the lender and ask them to verify the account. If the lender is unable to verify your account then it must be removed.

To your benefit it is very common for lenders to throw away the paperwork for old accounts and not want to spend the man hours researching a debt. For instance a credit card that is charged off will show up on your report.

Next, the credit card company is going to sell your debt to a collection agency. Now the credit card company has a tax write off and has gotten all the payment they believe is worth trying to get out of the account.

There is no need for them to keep the paperwork as this costs money and jams up access to needed information. Further, this company is going to be unwilling to spend the time to verify this account and that it was charged off, because there is no motive.

The credit card company would just be spending money for no reason to do this. Therefore it will not be verified and the bureaus must remove it from your report!

The Fair Credit Reporting Act of 1970 is the law that enables you to dispute credit report. This law says:

You can dispute any item YOU feel is inaccurate, the maximum amount of time an item can be on your report is 7 years.

The bureaus must investgate your dispute and remove any items that can not be verified. By disputing and removing bad credit items from the past you will improve your payment history.

If you additionally pay your current bills on time then you will see a huge jump in your overall score as you build a positive payment history (through removing old negative items and building new positive items).

This is roughly 40% of your overall FICO score – your payment history.

What Do I Do?

1. You first need current copies of your credit reports – you need to get your report from each bureau – 3 reports in all.

2. Decide what items YOU feel are inaccurate – an item can be inaccurate for a number of reasons: its not your account, the balance is wrong, the dates are wrong, you don’t know who the lender is, the account is paid …

3. File a dispute – this is a letter that must be sent to each bureau. In your letter you need to include the item you are disputing and the reason for your credit dispute. You can now file an online credit report dispute too – but we advise against this for a number of reasons. Instead stick to snail mail, a few extra days in this process will not make any difference.

4. Investigation Results – when the bureaus deem you dispute valid they will investigate. They will contact the lender and ask them to verify the debt. If it can not be verified then it must be erased from your report. The bureaus will notify you via snail mail on the results of their investigation.

I Though Credit Repair Was Hard?

Credit repair certainly can be difficult, the reason you hear it is difficult or even impossible is because of our credit system. The FCRA forces the bureaus to investigate disputes however the bureaus dont earn any money from investigations.

Don’t They Want Accurate Information?

You would certainly think so, however it really makes no difference. Lenders and businesses are going to buy the information from the bureaus regardless. Therefore the FCRA which forces the bureaus to investigate was and is still a very powerful law.

However because the bureaus have no financial incentive to investigate they have influenced our law makers to water down the FCRA. Now the bureaus must deem your dispute valid before they will investigate.

Unfortunately this is nothing more than a way for the bureaus to fight consumers and their attempts to dispute and correct their credit file. Typcially the bureaus will respond to a dispute letter with another asking for more information.

As we said – this is just an attempt to frustrate you and the goal is to get you to give up and just live with bad credit. You must stay determined and continue on with your efforts. The other option is to hire a professional credit repair company. They can file the disputes and ensure they will be investigated.

You will have the expertise of a credit law firm working for you and at affordable rates.

Perhaps you’re familiar with this scenario:

Your creditor threatened a court-ordered judgement but you thought that, if you waited long enough, he would get tired of pursuing you and let it go! Unfortunately, that’s not how it turned out and now you discovered:

“I Have a Judgement On My Credit Report!”

What’s worse, you didn’t realize how much this would affect your credit score. The fact is, a judgement can remain on your credit history anywhere from 10-12 years and, if the debt is still unpaid at the end of this time period, your creditor may be able to renew the judgement. Even a paid judgement will remain on your credit report for 7 years from the date paid!

So, you’re wondering how to go about removing the judgement. The first thing you need to know is that it is legal for a credit reporting bureau to remove an inaccurate entry. Also, a judgement may be deleted if it is disputed and not verified by the creditor within the mandated time period.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) was enacted in order to allow consumers to dispute credit items which are negative in nature. judgements and public records are included in the FCRA.

To dispute a judgement on credit report, you should send a dispute letter to the credit bureaus which are reporting the judgement. There are three major credit reporting agencies – TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax.

With other types of negative entries such as credit card debt and carloans, the credit reporting agency would be forwarding the dispute to creditors such as credit card companies, banks, car dealerships, loan companies, etc.

However, with a judgement or public record, the credit reporting agency will forward the dispute to the governmental agency which maintains the judgement, normally located in the county courthouse of your resident county. Recording and verifying judgements is performed by county employees, not high-tech automated software programs.

As it takes longer for a human to search legal records and verify a judgement or public record than clicking a computer key a few times, it is often the case that a judgement or public record request for verification is unable to be completed within the 30-day time limit. If this is the case, the credit reporting agency is legally required to remove the judgement entry and give you a clear credit history of this item.

If you are hesitant about taking this process on yourself, you might consider employing the services of a seasoned and knowledgeable consumer rights credit attorney. An attorney who specializes in consumer rights has likely resolved hundreds, if not thousands, of similar cases during his career.

Consider The Lexington Law Firm, who has removed thousands of judgement related entries.

To get started removing your judgement, dial: 800-230-1954. You will receive a free consultation and learn about ways to dispute questionable judgements on your credit history.

Way to go – you have taken the first step to correct your financial mistakes of the past and I assure you that you do not have to just live with bad credit or the outrageous expense of it!

If you are considering hiring a professional credit repair company you should first, be aware that it is true you can do everything a service can do. You are not required to hire anyone to fix your credit - you can do it yourself!

However the same is true about getting your oil changed, tires rotated, taxes arranged, hair style … My point is there are many things you can do but when it comes to such a life altering number why would you not hire a professional to do the job for you.

Further, your credit score is in direct correlation to the lifestyle you live; if you rent or own, have credit cards, ability to finance purchases, and not be embarrassed to have your credit checked. Additionally employers are increasingly running a potential hire or employees’ credit before they hire them. Let us not forget about all the money you will save in interest rates and upfront fees by having a good credit score.

What Does The Credit Repair Company Do To Fix My Credit?

Primarily, they are going to file a dispute letter. This is done by writing a dispute letter to each credit bureau asking them to investigate the item in question. If you have a collection on your TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian report then you will have to write three letters one to each bureau.

This is when many individuals turn to a professional to improve their credit because the bureaus will often find a dispute letter as invalid and not conduct an investigation.

Why?

Simple economics, the only reason the bureaus will investigate items is because of Federal Law. They are periodically fined by our government for not complying with regulation.

Thus, the bureaus have come up with elaborate stall tactics to frustrate the average consumer. The bureaus hope that you will just give up on fixing your credit.

However with credit repair services you can rest assured that your disputed items will be investigated. Some of these companies have been in business for over 20 years and have a long standing relationship and understanding of how the bureaus operate.

Additionally with professional credit repair companies you will have more tools at your disposal such as; court intervention, goodwill intervention, debt inquiry, and debt validation. Debt validation is where the debt collector must prove they have legal rights to collect this debt from you.

Believe it or not it is not uncommon for collection agencies to be unable to prove this. If this happens then you don’t have to pay the debt and the item will be removed from your report once you file a credit dispute.

We recommend Lexington Law, they have been in business for over 20 years and in 2010 removed over 1.2 million negative items off their clients credit reports!

They have 22 expert credit repair lawyers with over 400 paralegal’s and pride themselves in both customer service and their knowledge of the constantly evolving credit laws.

Cleaning up a credit report can be a difficult task however it can be done! And it is definitely worth it because it will directly improve the quality of life you live.

You will be able to finance future purchases, maybe qualify for a home loan, earn reward points on your credit cards, … Your credit score is a very important number and no other piece of information impacts your lifestyle as much, thus it is critical to attain clear credit.

Steps To Take

1. Get a Copy Of Your Credit Report – The first step is to get a copy of your credit report from each major credit bureau (TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian).

The Fair Credit Reporting Act enables you to get a free copy once a year from each bureau. It is important to get a copy from each bureau as it is common for your report to vary from bureau to bureau.

2. Identify What Items You Want To Dispute – The Fair Credit Reporting Act a law that was passed by Congress says you can dispute any item you feel is inaccurate. At which point the bureaus must conduct an investigation into the item. In other words you can dispute every negative item on your report – legally!

3. Do It Yourself vs. Credit Repair Service – You can clean up credit report by disputing items yourself. You can also choose to hire a professional at a reasonable cost. If you choose a credit repair service expect to pay $100 upfront and monthly fee in the range of $50 – $100. You can expect to use the service for at least 6 months.

4. File a Dispute Letter – If you hire a credit repair service all you need to do is foward a copy of your credit reports to the service and tell them what items you want to dispute. If you do it yourself you will have to write a dispute letter to each credit bueau.

In other words you will write three letters. In your letter include the item you are disputing, the reason, and any pertinent documentation or information. You will likely get a letter asking for more information before they conduct an investigation – keep writing your dispute letter.

You can clear bad credit yourself but you will need to be persistent and stay organized. For example; you will need to have a way to remember what bureaus are investigating which items as to avoid erroneus mail and to ensure you are doing everything in your power to dispute an item.

5. Investigation Results – Once the bureaus investigate your dispute they will send you a letter with the results. If the item was verified or if it was removed from your report.

If you hire a credit repair service they will have some additional tools to repair credit report such as; court intervention, goodwill intervention, and debt inquiry. I can’t forget debt validation – this means they will force a debt collector to prove they have legal rights to collect your debt.

For a free credit consultation call 1-800-230-1954 – and remember you can improve your credit score.
